Travel & stay
Getting to Hollacombe
South Devon rewards you for arriving slowly. If you can, come down the day before and make a weekend of it — half our guests are doing exactly that.
Driving
Roughly 45 minutes from the A38 at Buckfastleigh. The last mile is a single-track lane with passing places and Devon hedges taller than your car. Take it gently and fold your mirrors in. There is parking for 60 cars in the top field, and you are very welcome to leave a car overnight and collect it the next morning.
By train
Totnes is the nearest useful station, about 50 minutes away by road, with direct trains from London Paddington in around 2h45. Plymouth is a similar drive. We will run a minibus from Salcombe town at 13:00 and back again at 23:00 and 00:30 — let us know on your RSVP if you want a seat.
Taxis
There are not many, and they book up months out. Salcombe Cabs (01548 000000) and Kingsbridge Private Hire (01548 000001) both know the venue. Book your return the moment you book your room.
Somewhere to sleep
April is early enough in the season that South Devon still has room, but not for long. Book by the end of January if you can.
-
The Salcombe Harbour Hotel
Salcombe, 15 min away. Smart, view of the estuary, we have held ten rooms until 24th January under "Whitcombe/Ashridge".
-
Soar Mill Cove Hotel
Closest to the venue at 5 minutes. Small, family-run, book early.
-
The Kings Arms, Malborough
Six rooms above a good pub in the nearest village. Reasonable and walkable to the minibus stop.
-
Higher Rew Camping
For the hardy and the thrifty. Fifteen minutes by car, sea views, hot showers, open from April.
-
Self-catering
There is a lot of it around Hope Cove and Kingsbridge. Groups of six or eight will do far better this way — several friends are already sharing houses, so ask around.
The address, for your sat nav
Hollacombe Barn, Soar Mill Lane, Malborough, Salcombe, Devon TQ7 3DS
what3words ///cliff.gentle.harbour
A warning that some sat navs send you down Soar Mill Lane from the north, which is narrower and has a ford. Come via Malborough village and follow the flags.
